- Description The CZ-52 (vz. 52) was the Czechoslovak military’s standard-issue sidearm from 1952 until the CZ-82 replaced it in the 1980s. Designed at Česká zbrojovka in Strakonice. not Uherský Brod like later CZ pistols. the CZ-52 is one of the most mechanically unique military pistols of the Cold War era. It uses a roller-locked breech mechanism, making it the only mass-produced pistol to ever use this locking system. Combined with the high-velocity 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge, the CZ-52 was designed to defeat body armor at close range. a priority for the Czechoslovak military during the early Cold War.
